Foam Core Materials

We use foam core because of the engineering benefits of separating layers string sheets or plates with a lightweight material which resists compression.

Loads are distributed on the outer surfaces during bending – stretch on the outer radius, compression on the lower surface.
By eliminating the middle, huge weight savings are made – provided the top 7 bottom can’t meet, and can’t shear.

For example 1 single piece of 2 layers of 200gsm cloth 30cms by 10cms will not support a cup. Put one layer either side of 10mm foam core & it will support a microwave ( when we have time 🙂 – we’ll do it and add the picture ).

We have (carefully) stood (both feet) on foam core panels weighing less than a snickers bar–> Try that with aluminium or steel alone.
